You might be keen to know what is Male Pattern Baldness and what are the factors due to which this happens. So let's start with the question

What is Male Pattern Baldness ??

This is the most common type of hair loss in men. It is genetic and related to male hormones. It starts with receding hairline and hair thinning at the crown area. Hair grows through hair follicle present below the scalp. Over time the follicle shrinks and stops the production of new hair. This leads to baldness. In females also such patter of baldness is known as male pattern baldness in women.

Symptoms of Male pattern baldness

Symptoms of male pattern baldness begin with receding hairline. The hairline gradually forms M shape. It becomes finer shorter and thinner and forms horseshoe shape on the sides. Male pattern baldness can be easily diagnosed by their appearance and pattern of hair loss.

Some Other Factors

Hormonal imbalance Androgen is the male hormone that regulates hair growth in men. With age the production of androgen increases. This leads to increased hair production on face and chest and reduction in the hair of the scalp. If the increased androgen is due to hormonal imbalance, it needs to be diagnosed and medically treated.

Increased stress level : At times, hair cycle gets disturbed and there is no proper hair growth due to the high level of stress. This condition is known as Telogen effluvium. Many factors provoke this condition such as illnesses, major surgeries, medications, severe psychological stress and other chronic diseases.

Grooming : Proper grooming is very essential. Hair needs to be clean and well moisturized. Avoid use of chemical products used in hair styling and stay away from too much heat.

Taking care of the hair and curing the underlying problems can cure the hair loss but genetic balding is inevitable. Hence the only permanent solution to Male pattern baldness is Hair transplant surgery. This is a minimally invasive surgery where hair is picked up from the back of the scalp and transplanted to the balding area. This hair is genetically resistant to balding and hence covers the baldness completely. There are various techniques of Hair transplant surgery. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is the most popular type. Nowadays Bio FUE is gaining popularity.
